Based on recent reports about antisemitism among German Muslims we as meet2respect (coordinated by Leadership Berlin) in cooperation with Kreuzberger Initiative against Antisemitism (KIgA), Center for Antisemitism Research, the Jewish Museum Berlin, Violence Prevention Network and Night of Religions Berlin as well as with participation by many Jewish and Muslim representatives want to send a strong signal against group-focused enmity on Sunday, Jun 24, 2018:

When?

Sunday, June 24

3.30 pm – 5.30 pm: Cycling Tour

5 pm – 7 pm: speeches, kosher/halal food & live music (including the German Federal Government Commissioner for Integration)

Where?

The tour will start at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and end at  Bebelplatz (Unter den Linden), place of the book burning in 1933

Jews and Muslims will share tandem bikes and participate in the tour together (participation in a velo taxi is possible as well). They will be followed by a crowd of single cyclists who support the message. The symbolic image of Imams and Rabbis (or Jews and Muslims) sharing one bike is meant as a statement against antisemitism by Muslim representatives. At the same time it is meant as a shared statement against both antisemitism and islamophobia which unfortunately both are widespread in Germany.

We invite you to join this event and support our message for mutual respect and against any form of violence and hate speech. Registering is possible via this form (German) or via e-mail (English/German) to tabea.perger@leadership-berlin.de.

We would be glad for any kind of support, like sharing this invitation, sending in a statement of support for the action or recommending other persons/organizations that might be interested in participating.

Here you can find images/videos of the same event in 2015  and you can join the event on Facebook.
